A moving, multigenerational story that intertwines Nigerian and Nepali cultural traditions, The Ceremony is a joyous, tender reckoning of love and the rituals that bind us, brought to life by CHUANG Stage, in partnership with Boston Playwrights’ Theatre and Boston University School of Theatre, catalyzed by The Huntington. It is part of the two-year, Boston-wide Ufot Family Cycle by playwright Mfoniso Udofia.

But her young daughter Anika has other transformations in mind for Hema: to be the kind of mother she was never destined to be.

CHUANG Stage – 2023
SKINLESS reimagines the ancient Chinese legend The White Snake as a queer, gender-bending modern fairy tale. This workshop stage reading was presented in 2023 as part of Found in Translation, CHUANG Stage’s annual summer public art collaboration with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center/Pao Arts Center and the social collective Asian American Theatre Artists of Boston (AATAB).
Flight of a Legless Bird

Flight of a Legless Bird follows the intertwined lives of Robin and Leslie, two queer artists from the 1980s to the 2000s. This play, performed in English and Cantonese, was presented in 2023 as part of Found in Translation, CHUANG Stage’s annual summer public art collaboration with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center/Pao Arts Center and the social collective Asian American Theatre Artists of Boston (AATAB).
